NCCU Falls to Georgia in NCAA Softball Regional Opener

ATHENS, Ga. – North Carolina Central University dropped its opening game of the Eagles’ first appearance in the NCAA Division I Softball Regional Championship to No. 14 seed University of Georgia, 12-0, on Friday at Jack Turner Stadium.

Georgia (40-13) took advantage of four walks and two errors in the first inning, as the host Bulldogs posted 12 runs on seven hits, including a pair of home runs, in the bottom of the initial frame.

NCCU sophomore Jaden Davis, who entered the pitching circle with just one out in the first inning, held Georgia off the scoreboard for the rest of the contest, allowing just three hits in the remaining three Bulldog at-bats.

Davis and freshman Takia Nichols reached base via walks, while four Georgia pitchers combined to keep the Eagles hitless.

NCAA Division I Softball Regional Championship play continues with NCCU (19-34) facing Boston University (51-9) on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
