Wake Forest FB: Embracing Consistency, Maximizing Potential in Preparation for 2023 Season

Charlotte, NC- As the 2023 college football season approaches, Wake Forest football is gearing up with enthusiasm and determination. Coming off a record of 8-5 in the previous year, the team is primed for another successful campaign. At the ACC Kickoff in Charlotte, NC, key players and Coach David Paul Clawson spoke passionately about their preparations for the upcoming season.

Coach David Paul Clawson, one of the longest-tenured coaches in the program’s history, fostered a culture of consistency and growth. Despite facing challenges like losing 11 starters to potential NIL opportunities and their own personal path, the team remains focused on maximizing its range and potential for the upcoming season. Bringing in new defensive coordinator Jason Jones has been a seamless transition, and the team is confident in turning their defense around while maintaining their high standard of winning championships according to Clawson..

Quarterback Mitch Griffis, who showed promise during the 2022 season, spoke at the ACC kickoff about his excitement for the upcoming challenges. Making one start and appearing in six games, Griffis displayed an impressive touchdown-to-interception ratio. Fearless and unafraid of taking risks, he embraces his role as a risk-taker on the field, and Coach Clawson has full confidence in him. Griffis credited the coaching staff and his teammates for providing the perfect environment to excel and grow as a player.

Linebacker Chase Jones, a pivotal defensive force, has been instrumental in leading the team to back-to-back bowl victories. Known for his disruptive presence on the field, Jones is determined to continue causing havoc in opponents’ offenses and creating turnovers in the 2023 season. As a captain, he plans to be a more vocal leader and take his preparation even more seriously, setting a shining example for his fellow teammates.

Center Michael Jurgens, a standout player named to the All-ACC Team as an honorable mention, has been a driving force behind the team’s success. His dedication to academics and football is a testament to the strong values instilled by the Wake Forest program. Choosing to return for another season, Jurgens feels he has more to give to the team, both on and off the field. Having experienced the benefits of consistency in football and academics, Jurgens aims to maintain a routine that allows him to thrive in both areas to hopefully win a championship.

As the Demon Deacons prepare for their upcoming season, the combination of strong leadership, talented players, and a culture of consistency bodes well for their continued success. With their sights set on winning championships and maximizing their potential, the Wake Forest football team is eager to showcase their skills on the field and continue their legacy of excellence.
