Durham Police Department And 50+ Communities To Observe National Night Out (NNO)

DURHAM, N.C. – Durham’s observance of National Night Out (NNO) will be on Tuesday, October 3, 2023. Durham Police Department is encouraging neighborhood groups, area residents, businesses, agencies, and homeowners’ associations to support the celebration by enjoying the evening outside with neighbors, law enforcement, and public safety partners. Over 50 neighborhoods have registered to host a variety of block parties, cookouts, flashlight walks, contests, youth activities, and anti-crime campaigns.

NNO is a collaborative effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, and neighborhood unity. The National Association of Town Watch (NATW), which spearheads the observance, anticipates NNO 2023 will involve 16,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities, and military bases around the world. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the national observance.

Although NNO is offered nationally on the first Tuesday in August, DPD scheduled this year’s event on the first Tuesday in October to take advantage of cooler temperatures.

The Durham Police Department is excited to be hosting its first Kickoff Celebration at Durham Police Headquarters, located at 602 East Main Street. The celebration is from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and promises something for everyone, including a DJ, games, food, and police vehicle displays, along with a variety of booths highlighting crime prevention and safety. Durham Police officers will also be on hand distributing information on topics such as vehicle and home security, personal safety and much more.
