Campbell Vs. NCCU Football Game Preview

DURHAM, NC – The North Carolina Central University Eagles (3-1) will return home for the first time since a 47-21 victory over Winston-Salem State on September 2 to face the Campbell Camels (1-2 CAA, 2-2 overall) in a 4 p.m. showdown at O’Kelly-Riddick Stadium. The Eagles are coming off their 45-3 thrashing over Mississippi Valley State in the Circle City Classic in Indianapolis, IN.

In this game, junior quarterback Walker Harris (Rolesville, NC) threw for 263 yards and five touchdown passes. The Eagles look to either meet or exceed that performance against the Camels, thanks to their stout wideouts Twan Flip, Jr., Devin Smith, and Chauncey Spikes.

In addition to their offense, NCCU has a great defensive tandem, as sophomore defensive end Kendrick JuDour and sophomore linebacker Jordan Flaker were dominant in the game against Mississippi Valley State. DuJour recorded six tackles, and Flaker recorded four tackles, 1.5 sacks, and an interception.

Campbell looks to bounce back from last week’s 28-24 loss to the Elon Phoenix, where their comeback bid fell short, as they scored 14 fourth-quarter points. Redshirt Senior Quarterback Hajj-Malik Williams (Atlanta, GA) is one that the Eagles have to look out for. Williams amassed 367 passing yards and 33-44 passing attempts, with one touchdown and interception each.

On the defensive side, Campbell has Linebacker Monchovia Gaffney (Graduate Student – Whiteville, NC) as its anchor. Gaffney had ten tackles, an interception, and a forced fumble last week. Also, Redshirt Junior D’Marcus Harrington is a great contributor to the Campbell Defense. Harrington had nine tackles, while his teammate in the backfield, Linebacker CJ Tillman (Rockingham, NC), recorded eight tackles and a forced fumble.

NCCU and Campbell met for the first time last year on October 1, 2022, in Buies Creek. The Camels outlasted the Eagles by a 38-18 score.

NCCU will be honoring their Hall-of-Fame Members during the game. Tickets are available on the NCCU Eagle Pride website.
