UNC Tar Heels Preseason Media Day: A Glimpse Into the Season Ahead

Chapel Hill, N.C. — The Tar Heels have set their sights on securing a spot in the NCAA tournament, and with seven new players on the roster, the team is embracing a fresh start. Harrison Ingraham, a transfer from Stanford, infused high energy into the media day, emphasizing that UNC basketball is the golden standard. Ingraham, who shares a close relationship with Coach Williams, is expected to bring a valuable dynamic to the team.

Jaelyn Withers, a transfer from Louisville, shared the challenges of his transfer process, still processing his previous season’s experiences during a challenging period for Louisville. However, he expressed confidence in UNC’s ability to showcase big-time dunks and three-pointers in the upcoming season.

Armando Bacot, entering his final year at UNC, is a player of record-breaking achievements.  He aims to focus on securing team victories while striving for the Player of the Year Award, making this season a defining one for him.

Zayden High, a freshman, emphasized the steep learning curve from high school to college basketball, particularly regarding the faster pace of play. Nonetheless, he affirmed his belief in making the right decision by choosing UNC, eager to contribute and grow within the team.

Coach Davis emphasized a consistent approach to preparation, expecting his players to be attentive and learn from each session. He highlighted three green lights for shooting this season, identifying RJ, Paxton, and Cormack as the key shooters who need to let it fly with confidence. Davis’s goals for the season include generating steals and deflections to pave the way for multiple scoring opportunities. He outlined an inclusive playing philosophy, emphasizing that preparation and practice will determine playing time.

During the open practice, fast-break drills showcased the Blue and White teams. The White team, often considered the starting lineup, featured returning stars RJ Davis and Armando Bacot, along with transfers Paxson Wojcik, Cormac Ryan, and Harrison Ingram.
