N.C. State Secures Victory in an Explosive Match Against Marshall
Raleigh, N.C- On October 7th, an electrifying game unfolded at Carter-Finley Stadium as N.C. State defeated over Marshall in a non-conference battle, clinching a 48-41 win. Following a narrow loss to Louisville in the previous week, the Wolfpack’s defense stepped up significantly, playing a crucial role in this victory. N.C. State sought an offensive boost after announcing earlier in the week that MJ Morris would replace Brennan Armstrong as the quarterback.
The defensive unit of N.C. State was stellar, forcing three fumbles and intercepting a Marshall pass. Linebacker Payton Wilson’s standout performance, including a recovered fumble resulting in Trent Pennix’s 39-yard touchdown, showcased the Wolfpack’s defensive prowess. Kevin “KC” Concepcion’s 8-yard TD after Robert Kennedy’s interception further their lead.
Offensively, quarterback MJ Morris displayed resilience and skill, achieving a career-high 265 passing yards and four touchdowns by completing 17 of 32 passes. His strong connection with tight end Trent Pennix was instrumental, with two touchdown passes covering distances of 39 and 62 yards. Running back Delbert Mimms also made a significant contribution, scoring a touchdown in the first quarter.
Marshall, entering the game with a nine-game win streak, faced a formidable challenge. Quarterback Cam Fancher showcased offensive strength, amassing a season-high 315 passing yards and securing four touchdowns, showing both passing and rushing abilities.
The game evolved into a fast-paced shootout, featuring six lead changes and marking the highest-scoring encounter for both teams this season. Despite Marshall’s offensive efforts, N.C. State’s defense recorded six sacks, contributing to their hard-earned victory.
Payton Wilson’s consistent stellar performance, amassing 14 tackles in this game, reaffirmed his status as an exceptional linebacker. His efforts, combined with Morris’ offensive contributions, propelled the Wolfpack to their most productive offensive game of the season.
While adopting a more cautious approach in the second half by attempting shorter passing plays and opting to punt, the dominant display in the earlier stages of the game set the tone for this hard-fought victory. This win against Marshall showcased the team’s determination and resilience, laying a strong foundation for the challenging games that lie ahead.
