James, NC State WBB Roll Past Elon
RALEIGH, N.C. – Guard Aziaha James scored 20 points to lead the North Carolina State Wolfpack to a 90-35 victory over the Elon Phoenix in the Reynolds Coliseum.
With the win, NC State improves to 3-0. Elon falls to 1-2 with the loss.
NC State goes 14-1 against Elon in all time matchups dating back to Nov. 18, 2000.
NC State opened the game with a layup from guard Madison Hayes to take advantage and go on a 7-0 run.
After the Phoenix tried closing the deficit, the Wolfpack responded by going on another run, this time 15-0.
NC State used a string of defensive plays to hold Elon on a scoreless drought on multiple occasions heading into the halftime break.
At halftime, NC State led Elon 44-14. The Wolfpack were led in the first half by both guard Aziaha James with 14 points and four rebounds and forward Mimi Collins with 14 points and three rebounds. For the Phoenix, forward Maya Johnson led the way in the first half with four points.
Guard Madison Hayes shot a three-pointer to start off the second half and extend the lead.
NC State continued to extend its lead, closing out on an 11-2 run once again, after leading the whole game to remain undefeated despite losing James late in the fourth quarter due to a knee injury on an attempt to steal.
The Wolfpack were led by guard Aziaha James with 20 points and five rebounds.
The Phoenix forward Maya Johnson led finishing with six points and two rebounds.
“If we take care of the ball look what can happen, ” said head coach Wes Moore when discussing team efforts during the game.
Up next, NC State will host Rhode Island Sunday, Nov. 19 at 2 p.m. EST at the Reynolds Coliseum.
