NC State Defeats Charleston Southern, Adding to Their Winning Streak

RALEIGH, N.C. – Guard DJ Horne’s score of 18 points led the North Carolina State Wolfpack to an 87-53 victory over the Charleston Southern Buccaneers in the PNC Arena. With the win, NC State improves to 3-0. Charleston Southern falls to 2-2 with the loss. 

There was limited scoring between the two teams through the first eight minutes. NC State guard Dennis Parker Jr. steals to set up a score for guard DJ Horne that gave the Wolfpack a 16-11 lead. There were a lot of turnovers, fouls, and missed shots, including three-pointers for both teams, resulting in a low-scoring first half.  

Approaching the end of the first half, NC State forward DJ Burns Jr. and guard Jayden Taylor go back-to-back on dunks to help the Wolfpack go on a 22-6 run to lead 42-23 going into the halftime break. 

Guard Louis Hutchinson led the Buccaneers at the break with eight points and four rebounds. Burns led the Wolfpack with 14 points and one rebound. 

There was a lot of back-and-forth to start the second half. Much like the first half, there were multiple missed shots for both teams before getting into the groove of things.  

Horne goes on a 12-0 run, helping The Wolfpack lead 76-46 with 6:32 remaining in the game. NC State was able to continue to force fouls through the second half on the Buccaneers and seal the 87-53 victory. 

The Wolfpack were led by guard DJ Horne who finished the game with 18 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Burns followed with 16 points and one rebound. Guard Dennis Parker Jr. added 12 points and four rebounds. 

On the other hand, the Buccaneers were led by guard RJ Johnson who finished with 12 points, two rebounds, and three assists. Guard Louis Hutchinson followed with 11 points and seven rebounds. 

NC State played more aggressively, both offensively and defensively, to take advantage and lead for most of the game while creating foul trouble and turnovers for the Buccaneers. 

Scoring 29 points off forced turnovers, the Wolfpack was able to create opportunities from those turnovers, continuing to extend its lead throughout the game.
