RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh Police Chief Estella D. Patterson said during a press conference that one student is dead and another is injured after a stabbing at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School today (Nov. 27).
According to police, two students were stabbed and taken to local hospitals. One student later died from their injuries. A juvenile suspect is in custody.
The scene is secured, and the stabbings appear to be isolated, according to the police.
Police have yet to confirm if there are more suspects in the stabbing assaults.
The following statement is on the high school’s website:
Parents: Our school is under Code Red lockdown while law enforcement responds to a potential threat.
No one is allowed on our campus during a Code Red lockdown. You will not be permitted near campus until the lockdown is over. Please do not come to school to pick up your student. In a Code Red lockdown, the entire building is locked down. No one is allowed to enter or exit the building until an all-clear announcement is received from police.
We will share updates via email and our school website as soon as possible.
We appreciate your cooperation in helping us to keep our students and staff safe. More information about our lockdown protocols is available on the Keeping Your Child Safe website.
The Code Red lockdown was in effect until 2:20 p.m., at which point students were released as usual. Due to the ongoing police investigation, carpool students will be transported by bus to Walnut Creek Amphitheater Lot D to reunify with their parents. Staff will remain with students at that location until they are picked up.
Bus riders will be dismissed and transported from the school’s campus via the regular process. Student drivers, walkers, and bikers will be permitted to leave campus in controlled groups.
All after-school activities are canceled, the school said.
