Psi Phi Chapter Of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Holds Successful Annual Achievement Week Program

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – Under the leadership of Basileus Carlos Roseboro and the guidance of Achievement Week Chair Linwood Jerald, the Psi Phi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. in Winston-Salem recently concluded a week of activities that coincided with the organization’s founding 112 years ago. 

The weeklong events from November 13 -19 began with a fellowship to watch Monday Night Football at the Omega Friendship Center on Patterson Avenue. It was followed by the Achievement Week awards ceremony on Thursday, a breakfast honoring veterans and older Brothers on Friday morning, and fellowship to support a Black-owned business – Simply Sonya’s – on Friday evening. On Saturday morning, the Brothers met at the Omega Friendship Center and went shopping for Thanksgiving food to provide to underserved families in the area. They returned to the center to fill the boxes and deliver them to the families.

Achievement Week culminated with a fellowship church service at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Winston-Salem attended by more than two dozen Brothers. 

The Achievement Week awards ceremony speaker was Travis Alexander, the chaplain of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity’s Sixth District. He told the audience that organizations like Omega Psi Phi and others must continue to be role models for Black youth, many of whom seem to have lost their way regarding manners, common courtesy, and respect. 

The awards ceremony was held at Mt. Olive Baptist Church. The award winners were as follows: Brother Keith Green (Manhood); Brother Ron Travis (Scholarship); Brother Robert McCollum and Brother Joel Willis (Perseverance); Brother Murray Miller (Uplift); Brother Charles Hairston (Founders); Brother Linwood Jerald (Citizen of the Year); Brother Barry Rountree (Superior Service); and Brother Carlos Roseboro (Omega Man of the Year). 

The Mu Epsilon Chapter Basileus Chris Jones at Winston-Salem State University also handed out awards during the evening. Also, the winner of the Annual International High School Essay Contest was Billy Mason V, a senior at Mt. Tabor High School in Winston-Salem. The emcee of the awards ceremony was Brother Richard L. Williams.

Achievement Week is one of Omega Psi Phi’s mandated programs held each November and is designed to recognize persons who have contributed to community uplift. The theme of this year’s program was “Omega Men Promoting a Harmonious Future Through Friendship and Service.”
