Jazz at the NCMA 2024, Juneteenth Joy Featuring Kirk Franklin, Amadou & Mariam, and More

RALEIGH – Expanding on individual and collective capacities to experience joy through music, the third year of Jazz at the NCMA (NC Museum of Art) celebrates the transcendent power of jazz as an art form, its African American origins, and its intersections with other musical genres.

Joy

This season’s lineup features seven Grammy Award winners and six Grammy-nominated artists. It centers on the improvisational spirit of traditional jazz with grooves of bebop, salsa, funk, soul, Latin jazz, R&B, fusion, neo-soul, and more. All Jazz at the NCMA concerts are held in the Joseph M. Bryan, Jr. Theater in the Museum Park.

“The theme for our third season is ______JOY. Attendees are invited to fill in the blank and engage with joy on their terms – enjoy JOY, make space for JOY, be mindful of JOY, and reconnect with JOY are a few examples,” said Moses T. Alexander Greene, Director of Performing Arts and Film.

With a celebrated career spanning 30 years, Kirk Franklin continues to make a profound mark on the music industry. The songwriter, music producer, and television and film producer has successfully bridged the gap between gospel, R&B, hip-hop, and pop. There’s no doubt that Franklin’s God-given talent and deep faith have helped him remain the influential, relevant visionary he is today.

Franklin is back with his 13th and most personal and reflective album yet, titled Father’s Day (Fo Yo Soul). The album is a collection of 10 inspirational tracks with the constant theme of love, faith, and resilience flowing through them. Father’s Day is accompanied by a short film that provides a deeper context for the album.
