NC State Takes Down Florida State to Reach Title Game
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The North Carolina State Wolfpack advanced to the ACC Championship with a 69-43 victory over the Florida State Seminoles on Saturday in the Greensboro Coliseum.
There was a slow, yet defensive start to the game. Eventually, the Wolfpack got some motion going. Mimi Collins was on fire in the first half, scoring around the court and posting 13 points and nine rebounds. NC State had a flow going and closed the first quarter with an 8-0 run and the second with a 7-0 run, concluded by a three-pointer from Aziaha James.
Florida State struggled to get the offense going. They were held to their fewest points in a half this season and made only 26% of their shots.
“Clog the paint up. We know they’re drivers. We know they can shoot it really well, but the amount of lift that we have,” said Mimi Collins when responding to how the Wolfpack held the second-best scoring offense in the ACC to 26% in the first half.
Florida State came out of halftime with a 6-0 run. NC State responded with a 6-0 run and closed the third quarter with a 5-0 run.
The fourth quarter consisted mainly of back-and-forth action. By that time, the Wolfpack had the game in their hands and eventually secured the 69-43 victory.
The Wolfpack dominated on both sides of the ball. They were dominant in the paint, scored 22 points, and played well against the post-defense.
Florida State struggled on both sides of the ball, partially due to miscommunication on defense.
The Wolfpack had good execution throughout the game. They went the entire first half committing only one foul and held Florida State to zero free throw attempts.
Aziaha James and Mimi Collins had explosive performances for Saturday’s game. They combined for 40 points and 22 rebounds.
