Raleigh Police Body Cam Video Release From Feb. 10 Officer-Involved Shooting

RALEIGH – In the continued effort to maintain transparency, the City of Raleigh and Police Chief Estella Patterson petitioned the Superior Court to release body cam video that captured interactions of Raleigh Police Department officers on February 10. After reviewing this request, the presiding judge authorized the release of the video.

On Wednesday, March 20, 2024, in accordance with NCGS § 132-1.4A, a hearing was held via Webex in Wake County Superior Court. On Tuesday, March 26, 2024, an order was issued by the Court that authorized the Raleigh Police Department to release videos related to this incident. Background

An investigation is underway after a Raleigh police officer shot a man.

Officers responded to a report of shots fired around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday (Feb. 10) near Rock Quarry Road and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

When police arrived, they said they found a man with a gun. RPD said one of the officers shot that man, who was then taken into custody and also treated for his injuries.

As officers kept investigating, they said they found three other people who were injured in the incident and rendered first aid. It’s unclear whether they were involved in the shooting or how they were injured. Police didn’t say whether they were shot or, if so, by whom.

The three were taken to a hospital.

Officers did have their body cameras turned on during last night’s shooting, and those videos are being reviewed by the State Bureau of Investigation and RPD internal affairs.

“In keeping with departmental policy, the State Bureau of Investigation was notified and promptly responded to conduct a criminal investigation and will submit its findings directly to the Wake County District Attorney,” said Zachary Lechette, RPD deputy chief. “The RPD’s internal affairs unit will conduct a separate but parallel administrative investigation to focus on departmental policy compliance.”
