Raleigh Police Investigating Two Overnight Shootings, One As A Homicide
RALEIGH – The Raleigh Police Department is investigating two shootings that took place overnight in the same area within two hours of each other.
On Saturday, May 18, 2024, at approximately 11:49 p.m., the Raleigh Police Department responded to a reported shooting at the intersection of Sherman Avenue and Clanton Street. Upon arrival, officers located one male victim with a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
This incident is being investigated as a homicide. Joris Cooper, 22, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. At this time, no arrest has been made.
This is an ongoing investigation.
On Sunday, May 19, at approximately 12:50 a.m., Raleigh Police responded to another shooting, this one at the intersection of Gorman Street and Sherman Avenue. The officers located one male victim with a gunshot wound. The victim in this incident was also transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
This incident occurred within close proximity to the earlier shooting; however, it is unknown if the two incidents are related.
Officers and detectives are on the scene, determining the circumstances surrounding both overnight incidents.
North Carolina State University Police is assisting with both investigations.
