Durham Police Make Arrest in March Homicide, File Charges in Two Fatal Hit-and-Run Crashes

DURHAM, NC – Durham Police have made an arrest in a murder that happened in March and filed charges against two drivers in two separate, fatal hit-and-run crashes involving pedestrians.

Durham Police investigators have arrested and charged Antoniquette Rigsbee, 47, with the murder of Samuel Carr, 43, that occurred in late March.

At approximately 1:33 am on March 28, 2024, officers responded to a report of a gunshot wound in the 3400 block of Old Chapel Hill Rd. When officers arrived, they found an adult male victim, later identified as Carr, suffering from a gunshot wound. Carr was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Rigsbee has been charged with murder, 1st degree kidnapping, and stalking. She turned herself in at the Durham County Jail on Monday where she is being held without bond.

Charges in Two Fatal Hit-and-Run Crashes

Investigators with the Durham Police Department’s Traffic and Crash Team (TACT) have filed charges against two drivers in two separate, fatal hit-and-run crashes involving pedestrians. Both crashes occurred between May 4th and 5th at two different locations in the city.

North Miami Boulevard Crash
Alston

Investigators have charged Joshua Antoine Alston, 38, of Durham, in connection with the hit-and-run crash that occurred on May 4, 2024, on North Miami Boulevard. 

At approximately 9:06 p.m., Timothy Wayne Wright, 35, was crossing North Miami Boulevard near Raynor Street when he was struck by a dark blue Jeep Grand Cherokee. The vehicle then struck a pole before backing up and fleeing the scene. Wright was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Shortly after this crash, it is believed the same suspect vehicle was involved in another crash on Holloway Street near Herbert Street. The suspect in the crash got out of the vehicle briefly before fleeing the scene.

Alston has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, misdemeanor death by vehicle, felony hit-and-run resulting in death, reckless driving, driving while license revoked for impaired revocation, and exceeding a safe speed. He was given no bond on the current charges and a $30,000 secured bond for two probation violations.

North Roxboro Street Crash

Investigators have charged Nicole Lee, 22, of Durham, in connection with a hit-and-run crash involving a pedestrian that occurred on May 5, 2024, on North Roxboro Street. 

At approximately 5:03 a.m. on May 5, 2024, Phillip Farrington, 28, was struck in the 2400 block of North Roxboro Street by a 2014 Lexus sedan that was traveling northbound. The driver fled the scene. Farrington was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Lee has been charged with felony hit-and-run resulting in death, no operator’s license, and operating a motor vehicle with no insurance. She was released on a $6,500 unsecured bond.

Both crashes remain under investigation and could result in further charges. DPD would like to thank the public for their assistance in these cases.
