Woman Wanted After Chatham Co. Deputies Say Her Pit Bulls Attacked 3 People
A Hope Mills woman is facing charges after Chatham County deputies say she apparently left her four pit bulls in a neighborhood that was under construction, where they later attacked three people.
Brittney Patrice Fountain, 31, is wanted on four counts of animal cruelty, four counts of animal abandonment, one count of violation of rabies vaccination for a dog, and numerous Chatham County ordinance violations.
Anyone who knows of Fountain’s whereabouts can call the sheriff’s office at 912-652-7634.
Three people are recovering after authorities say they were attacked by loose pit bulls near Jordan Lake on Monday (May 20).
A resident of the Firefly Overlook housing development near Jordan Lake said a mother and her son screamed out for help while the dogs attacked them. Another neighbor came rushing to ward off the dogs.
Deputies said when they arrived, the woman had bites on her legs and left hand, while her son had multiple bites on his legs. Both are expected to be ok.
Chatham County said it is an active investigation and cannot comment if the dogs were dumped in that area or just loose.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies used “all less-than-lethal options” available and captured three of the four dogs. After deputies tried to capture the fourth dog on multiple occasions, a deputy shot and killed the dog.
Authorities took the surviving dogs to the Chatham Sheriff’s Animal Resource Center. Deputies said Tuesday the dogs are on a 10-day hold for rabies observation.
