Saturday Evening Fatal Drive-By Shooting Under Investigation By Durham Police
DURHAM, NC – The Durham Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Saturday evening.
At approximately 5:12 p.m. on May 25, officers responded to a report of a gunshot wound in the 3600 block of Keystone Place. When officers arrived, they found an adult male victim in a vehicle in the parking lot who had been shot. EMS responded, and the victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. The victim in this incident has been identified as Ricky Orlando Nichols Jr., 20, of Durham.
Based on a preliminary investigation, the victim was traveling as a passenger in a white sedan with an adult male driver near the intersection of Dearborn Drive and Old Oxford Road. The suspect vehicle pulled up beside them, fired multiple rounds into the passenger side of the white sedan, and fled the scene. The driver of the white sedan continued west on Dearborn Drive, turned right on Keystone Place, parked the vehicle, and fled the scene on foot.
This is an ongoing investigation that appears to be an isolated incident. Further information will be released at the appropriate time.
Due to the investigation, the intersection of Dearborn Drive and Old Oxford Road remained closed for several hours on Saturday eve.
