‘Saturday on South’ Party Set for July 20 In Raleigh
RALEIGH – Join the City of Raleigh for ‘Saturday on South’! On July 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the City will host a party on W. South Street between S. Dawson and S. McDowell Streets.
In September, the Raleigh City Council will vote on whether to permanently close a portion of South Street. The closure would allow the Red Hat Amphitheater to be relocated south of Lenoir Street, and the Raleigh Convention Center would expand into the space currently occupied by the amphitheater.
‘Saturday on South’ is a chance for community members to learn more about the plans and speak with City staff and other project partners about the proposed work. This event will show you what these blocks will look like when the Raleigh Convention Center expands. City staff will be on hand to answer your questions about car, bike, and foot access. They will be able to show you where the Red Hat Amphitheater lands, how the Chavis-Dix strollway connects, and what other changes could happen nearby.
The ‘Saturday on South’ party will feature a cookout, bounce houses, live music, and snow cones. Best of all, it’s free and open to everyone. Members of the Raleigh Convention Center and Performing Arts Center complex will be on hand to answer questions. Additional staff from the Transportation, Planning, Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources departments will also be available to talk with people about the project.
