Peace Missionary Celebrates 50 Years Of Faith, Fellowship And Community

DURHAM, NC — This year marks a significant milestone for Peace Missionary Baptist Church. It commemorates its 50th anniversary of serving the Durham community with unwavering faith, love, and commitment from Friday, July 26, to Sunday, July 28, 2024.

Founded on July 28, 1974, by the late Rev. William E. Daye and 19 other dedicated parishioners, Peace has been a beacon of spiritual guidance, compassion, and community engagement for half a century. Over the past five decades, the church family has grown and evolved, embracing the community’s ever-changing needs. Today, Peace is led by the Rev. Dr. D. Gregory Ceres.

Peace has planned a series of special events and activities throughout the year to honor this momentous occasion. These celebrations will reflect on their rich history and look forward to a future filled with continued spiritual growth, service, and unity.

Friday Night Anniversary Service (July 26):  A special service will be held on Friday, July 26, at 7 p.m., at Peace (2608 NC-55, Durham). The Rev. Dr. Marcus D. Cosby, Sr., pastor of Wheeler Ave. Baptist Church in Houston, TX, will be the guest preacher.  

Anniversary Banquet (July 27):  An anniversary banquet will be held on Saturday, July 27 at the Durham Hilton. This event is sold out.

Anniversary Church Service (July 28): The pinnacle of the 50th-anniversary celebrations will be a grand event on Sunday, July 28, at 11 a.m. at Peace (2608 NC-55, Durham). Members, friends, and the community are invited to a festive gathering filled with music, fellowship, and a spirit of gratitude for the past and anticipation for the future.

Community Outreach Programs: In the spirit of giving back, Peace has launched a series of community outreach programs aimed at making a positive impact on the lives of those in need. From food drives to volunteer initiatives, they are committed to embodying the values of compassion and service that have defined the church over the years.

Peace currently serves Urban Ministries twice a month on the 3rd Tuesday and the 3rd Saturday. They will continue serving until the 50th-anniversary celebration in July 2024. 

As Peace celebrates this golden anniversary, it remains dedicated to its mission of spreading love, faith, and hope. They extend their heartfelt gratitude to all who have been a part of their journey and invite the entire community to join them in commemorating this special milestone.
