Raleigh Police Hosts National Night Out on August 6

RALEIGH – The Raleigh Police Department (RPD) believes knowing your neighbors is the foundation for a safer community. National Night Out (NNO) is an annual event focused on strengthening the relationship between the community and law enforcement. The event promotes neighborhood camaraderie to create a more caring and vibrant place to live. The event, always on the first Tuesday in August, has been held annually nationwide since 1984. The Raleigh Police Department has supported National Night Out for over 30 years.

This year, National Night Out will be observed on Tuesday, August 6. The RPD asks you to leave your porch light on from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The porch light symbolizes alertness and awareness; it makes your neighbors and friends feel welcome.

Raleigh Police Chief Estella Patterson says of the event, “I am excited about this year’s National Night Out. It is a wonderful opportunity to spend time with neighbors and learn about what’s important to each of us—community safety. Reducing crime in our city and creating a safe and inviting community are endeavors we should all embrace. NNO is just one way to build relationships with those who live and work in our great city. I encourage everyone to participate in NNO and partner with us to create a vibrant and safe Raleigh for all.”
