Guilford County Deputies Arrest Man Wanted For Bank Robberies In Creedmoor, Chapel Hill

GREENSBORO, NC — In Guilford County, law enforcement officers apprehended a man suspected of being involved in two recent bank robberies in the Triangle area.

Photos of 52-year-old Johnathan Lemount Florence began circulating after he reportedly stole money from the PNC Bank on N. Main Street in Creedmoor. According to Creedmoor police, Florence walked into the bank around 3:29 p.m. on Friday (Aug. 23) and left with an “undisclosed” amount of cash.

Investigators in this case issued felony warrants for his arrest and asked the public for assistance in locating him and his vehicle—a red 2003 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck with license plate number VDT-3588.

Four days later, Florence appeared at a Bank of America in Chapel Hill, where he once again demanded money and left with it, according to the Chapel Hill Police Department. Florence entered the bank located at 100 Banks Drive around 1:10 p.m. on Tuesday (Aug. 27).

An investigation uncovered that during the robbery, Florence indicated that he was armed. Chapel Hill police stated that they have additional charges pending for this robbery.

According to an update from Creedmoor police, the case broke down Wednesday night (Aug. 28) when deputies with the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office spotted Florence and handcuffed him.

“This arrest is a testament to the outstanding law enforcement from federal, state, and local agencies that we have developed over the years,” Creedmoor Police Chief Troy Wheless said. “We would like to thank all of our law enforcement partners for helping us locate and remove this subject from our communities.”
