Durham’s Top Soul Food Restaurant: Let’s Eat Soul Food Has Two Convenient Locations
DURHAM, NC— Let’s Eat Soul Food has quickly become Durham’s top destination for authentic, mouthwatering soul food. With two convenient locations, this beloved restaurant offers a menu full of familiar and flavorful soul food dishes that keep customers returning for more. Let’s delve into the inspirational story of how and why this humble home cooking blossomed into a thriving business, becoming Durham’s #1 soul food restaurant!
The Black woman-owned restaurant is led by the resourceful Glynis Hall, who began her culinary journey by catering food from her home. Despite never considering herself much of a cook due to her tomboyish upbringing—where she spent more time playing outside with her brothers than in the kitchen—Hall discovered a natural talent for cooking that she attributes to a gift from God. This talent quickly became apparent as family and friends praised her, leading to a home-based catering business where she would prepare 150 to 200 plates daily. However, as demand grew, even with hired help, it became overwhelming. Realizing the need for a change, Hall boldly decided to bring the people to her, setting the stage for the successful restaurant she now runs.
Starting with a humble food truck, Glynis Hall began serving up familiar American soul food dishes like baked chicken, oxtails, pork chops, and hamburger steak, paired with delicious sides such as collard greens, rice and gravy, and fried okra. Her food truck quickly gained a loyal following, as people were drawn to the comforting and nostalgic flavors of her top-notch American soul food, especially in an environment where many other food trucks offered more unfamiliar fare.
Her food truck’s warm reception and growing popularity led Hall to expand her business, eventually opening two Let’s Eat Soul Food restaurants in Durham—one at 2514 Fayetteville St. and the other at 5400 S Miami Blvd – Suite 102. These restaurants have become beloved spots in the community, known for their delicious, homestyle cooking that brings people back to their roots.
But Hall isn’t stopping there. She has ambitious plans to expand her business further, hoping to open more Let’s Eat Soul Food restaurants in Charlotte and Atlanta. Her ultimate goal is to grow her brand into a nationwide franchise, bringing her beloved soul food to communities nationwide.
In addition to expanding her restaurant, Hall is also working on publishing a cookbook to share her flavorful recipes with fans who have enjoyed dining at her establishments. This cookbook will allow her to touch even more lives, enabling people everywhere to recreate the soulful, comforting dishes that have made her restaurants so popular.
Despite her busy schedule running her own business, Hall remains committed to supporting and uplifting others in the culinary community, particularly her siblings. They own Where’s the Jerk and Vittles At The Park, specializing in Caribbean cuisine and soul food, respectively. She hopes these similar restaurants in the Durham area will achieve the same popularity and success as hers.
From the humble beginnings of not even realizing she had a talent for cooking to now owning two successful restaurants with ambitions to expand even further, Glynis Hall is just at the beginning of her restaurant journey. With her family by her side, Hall is dedicated to delivering quality, delicious soul food across the Durham area, with dreams of reaching even more communities beyond one day.
