Harris-Walz Campaign Kicks Off HBCU Homecoming Tour Across Battleground States

With less than 40 days until election day, the Harris-Walz campaign is intensifying its outreach by launching an HBCU Homecoming Tour across key battleground states. HBCU homecomings constitute a significant celebration of Black culture, and the campaign plans to use these events to engage directly with voters, particularly in states like North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Virginia, and Pennsylvania.

The tour will feature trusted surrogates, including local Black elected officials, national Black leaders, notable HBCU alumni, and influential hip-hop and Black culture figures. These leaders will participate in significant homecoming events, working to connect with the Black community and reinforce the importance of voter engagement.

The tour kicks off this Saturday at Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) for its 132nd Founders Day, where Team Harris-Walz will host a tailgate at the WSSU vs. Bowie State University football game in Winston-Salem, NC.

Tentative HBCU Tour Schedule:

  • Winston-Salem State University: Weekend of September 28
  • Lincoln University: Weekend of October 12

The Harris-Walz campaign’s HBCU Homecoming Tour is a testament to its commitment to meeting voters where they are and earning every vote. In honor of National Voter Registration Day and National HBCU Week, the campaign held canvassing events across 60 HBCU campuses, highlighting the importance of Black voter participation.

Vice President Kamala Harris, a proud Howard University alumna, has championed the role of HBCUs in shaping Black excellence and democracy. The Biden-Harris administration has already committed $17 billion in federal investments for HBCUs. To rally support, over 50 HBCU football legends recently endorsed the Harris-Walz campaign, reinforcing the campaign’s ties to Black communities and the importance of this election.
