Durham Man Convicted of Incest, Statutory Rape That Resulted In 3 Pregnancies
DURHAM, NC — A Durham man has been convicted of sexually assaulting his daughter for two decades, Durham County District Attorney Satana Deberry announced.
On Friday afternoon, a jury found Randy Page Sr. (case number 23CR000318-310), a 63-year-old white male, guilty of the following charges:
- Two counts of statutory rape of a person who is 13, 14, or 15 years old
- One count of incest of a person who is 13, 14, or 15 years old
- Two counts of felony incest
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Angela Garcia-Lamarca, with support from Legal Assistant LaShanda Sowell.
Garcia-Lamarca successfully argued in court that Page began raping his daughter when she was 11 or 12 years old until last year when she was 33. The assaults resulted in three pregnancies. Page used threats, violence, starvation, and isolation to maintain a “house of horrors,” Garcia-Lamarca argued in court and told his daughter that the Bible said sex between them was not wrong.
“He was adept at keeping the people in his household in the dark, underwater,” Garcia-Lamarca told the judge, arguing for the maximum sentence. “They tried to come up for air, and he pulled them back down. He may not have a criminal record, but we have no way of knowing how many harrowing crimes he committed.”
The survivor first reported the assaults to Durham police in 2015, at which time DNA was collected and confirmed Page had fathered three of the survivor’s children. However, Page, now 63, was not arrested until 2023, when the survivor called 911 to report another rape.
The survivor, law enforcement, and forensic experts testified during the week-long trial. Evidence presented by the State included paternity test results conducted on the survivor’s children as well as incriminating text messages and emails from the defendant.
“I want to commend the survivor in this case for her brave testimony. It is thanks to her that Mr. Page will never be able to hurt another person,” DA Deberry said. “This verdict is an example of the Durham DA’s Office’s commitment to survivors and getting justice for the most vulnerable among us, no matter how long ago the incest occurred. We understand it may take survivors time to come forward, and we want to assure them that the Durham DA’s Office stands ready to support them whenever they do.”
On Friday, September 27, Superior Court Judge Shamieka Rhinehart sentenced Page to four consecutive terms of imprisonment, totaling a minimum of 752 months to a maximum of 931 months in prison. As in all criminal matters, sentences are based on offense class and the defendant’s prior record level. In this case, Page had no prior criminal record.
