NASCAR Teams Up with WSSU for Innovative New Partnership

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) has announced an exciting new partnership with NASCAR to enhance its motorsports management program and create valuable opportunities for students. By becoming a NASCAR Campus Lab, WSSU is now the only public institution in the nation to offer this innovative program.

“This collaboration is a testament to the role that Winston-Salem State University plays in shaping the future of motorsports,” said Dr. Manju Bhat, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. “Our students will not only learn about the industry in the classroom but will also have the opportunity to apply their knowledge in real-world settings.”

As part of the NASCAR Campus Lab program, 15 WSSU students, primarily sophomores and juniors, will be selected to participate. These students will engage in marketing activations, tackle case studies, and gain hands-on exposure to the fast-paced world of motorsports. Each participant will receive a $3,500 scholarship from NASCAR, with one exceptional student earning a coveted spot in NASCAR’s prestigious Diversity Internship Program.

“This partnership reflects our deep commitment to offering relevant and innovative academic programs that prepare our students for the demands of today’s workforce,” stated WSSU Chancellor Bonita Brown. “It’s more than just a program—this is an opportunity for our students to be at the forefront of an evolving industry. NASCAR’s commitment to diversity aligns perfectly with WSSU’s mission to provide life-changing experiences for our students.”

Brandon Thompson, NASCAR’s Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration. “We are thrilled to continue this partnership with WSSU. This program provides students with exposure, experience, and opportunity while allowing NASCAR to tap into the next generation of diverse professionals who will drive innovation in our sport.”

One notable student, Rajah Caruth, is already making waves in the industry as the third Black driver to win a NASCAR series race. His achievements are a shining example of what this partnership can inspire, demonstrating the potential of WSSU’s motorsports program to produce leaders both on and off the track.

This groundbreaking partnership between WSSU and NASCAR opens doors for students and underscores the importance of diversity and inclusion in motorsports, paving the way for future innovators and industry leaders.
