Roxboro Man Fatally Shot on His Wedding Day in Greensboro

GREENSBORO, NC — Tragedy struck on what should have been a joyous occasion, as a Roxboro man was shot and killed on the day of his wedding, according to the Greensboro Police Department.

At approximately 8:49 p.m. on Saturday (Oct. 12), emergency responders, including Greensboro officers, firefighters, and Guilford County EMS, were dispatched to the Barber Park Events Center, 1502 Barber Park Drive, where the wedding reception was being held, to investigate a reported shooting.

Upon arrival, police found 37-year-old Tyrek Burton in the parking lot, suffering from a gunshot wound. Life-saving efforts were initiated at the scene, but unfortunately, Burton succumbed to his injuries later that night.

A family member revealed that Burton was shot just hours after marrying Kia​​ra Holloway, whose family hails from Person County. Reports from Broadcastify, which captures radio traffic between dispatchers and first responders, indicated that Burton may have sustained as many as 15 gunshot wounds.

As of Monday, authorities have not released any information regarding potential suspects or a motive for the shooting.

This incident marks the 32nd homicide in Greensboro for 2024.
