Attorney General Josh Stein Honors Triangle Area Residents with Dogwood Awards
RALEIGH, NC – Attorney General Josh Stein has recognized outstanding individuals from the Triangle area with the Attorney General’s Dogwood Award, an honor given to those working to improve North Carolinians’ health, safety, and well-being.
The 2024 recipients include law enforcement officers, public servants, and community advocates who have made significant contributions to their communities:
- Sheriff Mike Roberson (Chatham County) was recognized for his leadership and collaboration in public safety initiatives.

Sheriff Clarence Birkhead (Durham County) was honored for his dedication to protecting the community and advancing justice.
- Sheriff Curtis Brame (Vance County) was commended for recruiting and retaining dedicated law enforcement officers.
- Susan Doyle, District Attorney of Johnston County, was recognized for her commitment to safety and accountability.
- SBI Agent Kevin Roughton was honored for his work in protecting children from online crimes.
- Rep. David Price was acknowledged for his decades of public service and contributions to education, housing, and infrastructure.

Ontario Joyner, Durham’s Local Reentry Council Coordinator, was recognized for his work assisting formerly incarcerated individuals in reintegrating into society.
- Lars Paul, a former Fayetteville Police Captain, was honored for his efforts in combating the opioid crisis.
- Amanda Wilkes, Evidence Supervisor at the Raleigh Police Department, was recognized for clearing the backlog of untested sexual assault kits.
- Johnston County E-911 Communications was acknowledged for providing critical information during emergencies.
- Ethan Clark, a student at NC State, was honored for his work in weather forecasting and emergency updates.
- Deona Washington, a bus driver for Durham Public Schools, was recognized for her quick action in saving students from a bus fire.
