Taylor Leads NC Central To Homecoming Victory
DURHAM, N.C. — The North Carolina Central University (NCCU) Eagles secured a triumphant homecoming win, defeating the Morgan State Bears 16-7 on Saturday afternoon. The victory marked the Eagles’ seventh consecutive win over the Bears, continuing a streak that began in 2015. With this result, NCCU improved their record to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), boosting their season’s prospects.
The game began as a defensive struggle, with both teams holding firm. At halftime, NCCU led 7-0, thanks to a strong performance from their offense and defense. Senior quarterback Harris Walker played a pivotal role, completing 17 of 29 passes for 207 yards. Walker’s consistent playmaking helped the Eagles maintain control and set up scoring opportunities throughout the contest.
The game’s standout was junior running back J’Mari Taylor, who delivered a commanding performance on the ground. Taylor rushed for an impressive 195 yards on 25 carries, including a crucial touchdown that extended the Eagles’ lead. His dynamic running style and ability to break through tackles made him a key player in the victory, earning him accolades from fans and teammates.
On the other side, the Morgan State Bears (3-5, 0-1 MEAC) struggled to gain offensive momentum. Running back Jason Collins Jr. led the Bears’ efforts, managing 72 yards on 14 carries and scoring their lone touchdown. Despite their best attempts, Morgan State couldn’t match the balanced offensive attack and defensive strength of NCCU.
Next, the NCCU Eagles prepare to travel to Orangeburg, South Carolina, for a special Thursday-night clash against rivals SC State Bulldogs. The game, set for Halloween night at 7:30 p.m., will be a crucial matchup as the Eagles aim to continue their winning streak and solidify their position atop the MEAC standings.
