Woman Killed in Shooting Outside Cook Out Near Durham; Investigation Ongoing
DURHAM, NC — A tragic shooting outside a popular fast-food restaurant near Durham left a woman dead late Saturday night (Oct. 26), officials reported. The incident occurred just after 10:30 p.m. at the Cook Out located in the 1500 block of S. Miami Boulevard/U.S. 70, east of Durham near Angier Avenue, according to a news release from the Durham County Sheriff’s Office.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they found a woman who had been fatally shot. On Sunday, authorities identified the victim as 29-year-old Davicia Annie Jean Lee.
“Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division and the Forensics Unit are currently on scene conducting an investigation,” deputies stated on Saturday night. The investigation remains active, with law enforcement still gathering evidence to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The shooting at Cook Out was reported shortly after four people were wounded in a separate shooting at North Carolina Central University, located about five miles away. Deputies emphasized that the Cook Out shooting appears to be an isolated incident, unrelated to the earlier events at the university.
As of Sunday, no arrests had been made, and no suspects had been identified. Authorities are continuing to investigate, and the Sheriff’s Office has said that further details will be shared as they become available.
The investigation is still in its early stages, and the Durham County Sheriff’s Office is encouraging anyone with information related to the case to come forward.
