SPGBK Watches Co-Founder, NC Native Kwame Molden to Deliver NCCU Commencement Address

DURHAM, NC – North Carolina Central University (NCCU) has announced Kwame Molden, co-founder and president of the watch brand Springbreak (SPGBK), as the keynote speaker for its 144th Commencement Exercises on Friday, Dec. 13.

SPGBK Watches, known for its blend of style, impact, and affordability, was inspired by Molden’s Fayetteville, North Carolina roots and his commitment to community. Under Molden’s leadership, SPGBK has expanded into over 350 major retail stores, including Nordstrom, Macy’s, and Belk. In 2023, the brand was featured on Oprah’s Favorite Things list and has appeared in “Good Morning America,” Oprah Daily, The New York Times, and AfroTech.

Molden’s dedication to education has been exemplified through SPGBK’s Annual School Giving program, which has donated over $35,000 in watches to teachers and staff nationwide, including at his alma mater, E.E. Smith High School. With over a decade of experience as a senior process engineer, Molden has also led operational improvements for Fortune 100 companies in the Charlotte area. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology from North Carolina A&T State University and an MBA in marketing from UNC Charlotte.

NCCU’s commencement ceremonies will be held at McDougald-McLendon Arena, 700 E. Lawson St., with the graduate and professional ceremony at 9 a.m. and the baccalaureate ceremony at 2 p.m. Both events will stream live on the university’s website and YouTube channel.

In the interest of safety, NCCU will conduct security checks and enforce a clear bag policy. Bags must be clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC and no larger than 12” x 12” x 6, with exceptions for medical and baby supplies. Small clutches under 4.5” x 6.5” x 1” are also permitted.
