Raleigh Police Investigating Series of Shootings Into Vehicles on I-40
RALEIGH, NC – The Raleigh Police Department is currently investigating a troubling series of incidents where multiple vehicles were struck by gunfire along Interstate 40 in the Raleigh and Cary areas, heightening safety concerns for commuters. The incidents, which occurred near key stretches of I-40, have prompted an intensive investigation by local law enforcement.
The first of these incidents took place on Monday, November 4, around Chapel Hill Road, where a woman was reportedly shot in the leg. Following this, on Wednesday, November 6, multiple vehicles were hit by gunfire along I-40 from Chapel Hill Road to Gorman Street to Buck Jones Road, with the first call to police received at approximately 4:58 a.m. Another car was shot at before 6:30 a.m. on I-40 near Gorman Street.
No injuries were reported in Wednesday’s incidents.
According to Deputy Chief Rico Boyce of the Raleigh Police Department, the shootings are connected, totaling six incidents in just three days — two on Monday and four on Wednesday. “We’re going to be out there till we find who is responsible,” Boyce stated. “This is a priority for the Raleigh Police Department, and we’re going to do all we can to find who is responsible.”
Law enforcement officials believe a handgun may have been used in the shootings, though they have not yet identified a suspect. The Raleigh Police Department is coordinating with other local agencies to increase patrols in the area and ensure the safety of everyone traveling on the highway.
