NC State Stays Hot In Win Over Coastal Carolina
RALEIGH, N.C. – For the second consecutive game, NC State never trailed on its way to a wire-to-wire win over Coastal Carolina, 82-70, Wednesday night inside the Lenovo Center.
Jayden Taylor led four NC State players in double figures with 22 points. Join Taylor in double figures was Brandon Huntley-Hatfield and freshman Trey Parker who each scored 13 and Dontrez Styles chipped in 10.
It was the first double-digit effort of Parker’s young career while it’s the first double-digit game for Styles in an NC State uniform. The Pack has now had eight different players score in double figures this season.
NC State did not hit a three-pointer in the win, but did make 28 of its 35 free throw attempts.
The Pack’s lead was just two at the half, 35-33, but NC State scored the first 10 points of the second half in just one minute and 36 seconds of game action to open up a 12-point lead and Coastal Carolina would never get closer than seven points the rest of the way.
NC State would take its largest lead of the game at 17 points, 78-61, on a Styles jumper with 3:02 to play.
Ismaël Diouf saw the first action of his NC State career in the second half, finishing with two points, three rebounds and one assists in eight minutes of action.
Coastal Carolina’s Rasheed Jones was the only player to make a three-pointer in the game as he went 5-for-7 from long-range. He led the Chanticleers with 17 points while Jordan Battle and Denzel Hines each finished with 14 points.
The Pack forced Coastal Carolina into 19 turnovers which it turned into 17 points in the win.
NC State returns to action Monday night when it hosts Colgate at the Lenovo Center. Tipoff against the Raiders is scheduled for 7 p.m.
