MEAC Issues Suspensions After Howard-NCCU Football Post-Game Altercation
NORFOLK, VA – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) has suspended 36 student-athletes and one assistant coach following a post-game altercation between the Howard University and North Carolina Central University football teams on Friday, November 15, 2024.
After a thorough investigation and review of video evidence of the altercation, the MEAC concluded that 17 student-athletes from Howard, 19 student-athletes from North Carolina Central, and one assistant coach from North Carolina Central were in violation of the MEAC Constitution & Bylaws.
“The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference maintains a zero-tolerance policy for fighting, as such actions violate the core values of sportsmanship, respect, and integrity that our Conference upholds,” stated MEAC Commissioner Sonja Stills. “Our priority is to ensure a safe and respectful environment for student-athletes, coaches, and fans. Any behavior that undermines these principles will result in significant consequences. We expect all participants in MEAC events to embody dignity and reflect the high standards of the MEAC.”
The Conference has stated that no further comments will be made on the matter.
