Trey Songz Ordered to Pay $11.2 Million in Civil Case Over Las Vegas Assault
Singer Trey Songz, known for hits like “Bottoms Up,” has been ordered by a Las Vegas court to pay more than $11.2 million in damages following a 2021 assault involving Maryland Capitol police officer Tyrelle Dunn. The altercation occurred at The Cosmopolitan Hotel and resulted in severe injuries to Dunn, who was attempting to aid his wife during the incident.
According to court documents, the incident began when Dunn’s wife was allegedly lured to a hotel room by Songz’s security team under the guise of meeting the singer. Once inside, she was reportedly assaulted and had her phone confiscated. Dunn, hearing his wife’s screams, rushed to intervene and was attacked by Songz and his security team. Dunn sustained fractures to both eye sockets and required over a month off work to recover.
“The attack has had a profound and everyday impact on my life,” Dunn stated in the complaint. “I still have the scarring and suffer emotionally from the attack. I think about the attack every day when I see the injuries to my face and body.”
Hotel staff’s emergency calls revealed hesitation and confusion, as security personnel were reportedly concerned that individuals in the room might be armed. Despite the severity of the incident, Las Vegas police declined to file criminal charges in 2022, citing insufficient evidence.
In the civil case, the court ruled in favor of Dunn, awarding him damages for medical expenses, pain, and suffering. Trey Songz did not respond to the lawsuit, leading to a default judgment.
This ruling is the latest in a series of legal challenges for Songz, who has faced multiple allegations of assault and misconduct over the years. Despite these controversies, the singer continues to perform and remains active in the music industry.
