Triangle Area Veterans Day Observance and Closures
RALEIGH, NC – Veterans Day, observed on November 11, is a time to honor the men and women who have bravely served in the US. As communities across the Triangle and surrounding areas prepare to commemorate this important day, several events, activities, and service adjustments have been announced to pay tribute to veterans and ensure residents can participate. Here’s a look at how Raleigh, Durham, and nearby towns will observe Veterans Day this year.
City of Raleigh Observes Veterans Day
The City of Raleigh’s administrative offices will be closed on Monday, November 11, in observance of Veterans Day. Emergency services, including police, fire, and rescue, will remain available by calling 9-1-1.
Trash and Recycling
- Trash and recycling collections will follow a regular schedule.
Yard Waste Center
- The Raleigh Yard Waste Center will be closed from Saturday, November 9, through Monday, November 11.
Transit

City of Durham Veterans Day Closures and Schedule
Administrative Offices
Most City of Durham offices, including City Hall and non-emergency facilities, will be closed on Monday, November 11.
Solid Waste Services
- The Solid Waste Management Department will be closed on November 11. Curbside garbage, recycling, and yard waste collections will be delayed by one business day. Friday yard waste collections will be rescheduled to Monday, November 18.
- The Waste Disposal and Recycling Center, Yard Waste Facility, and Household Hazardous Waste Center will also be closed on November 11 and reopen on November 12.
- Residents can sign up for collection alerts and holiday service updates via the department’s webpage or the Durham Rollout app.
Parks and Recreation
- Durham Parks and Recreation (DPR) administrative offices and facilities will close on November 11. For program information, contact DPR at 919-560-4355 or visit their website.
Parking Services

- Veterans Day Observance: Monday, November 11, at 11 a.m., Veterans Freedom Park, 1517 North Harrison Avenue. The event features remarks by Cary City Council, guest speaker Colonel Bret Batdorff, and music by Old North State Brass Band.
Chapel Hill
- Orange County Veterans Day Celebration: Monday, November 11, at 11 a.m., Orange County Veterans Memorial, 2501 Homestead Drive. The guest speaker is Captain Alfred S. McLauren, USN (Ret.) Ph.D.
- Veterans Day Concert with Durham Community Concert Band: Monday, November 11, at 3 p.m., Southern Village, 400 Market Street. This free concert includes patriotic music; attendees are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets.
