Fayetteville Girl, 11, Missing After Mom Discovers Alarming Snapchat Messages from Older Male
FAYETTEVILLE, NC – The family of 11-year-old Jada Artis is pleading for help after the Fayetteville middle schooler went missing Thursday evening (Dec. 5), potentially in connection with an older male she was communicating with on Snapchat.
Jada was last seen at her family’s Abbotts Landing Drive apartment around 6 p.m. by her mother, Lakeisha Williams. According to Destiny Williams, Jada’s aunt, the disappearance followed an argument between Jada and her mother about the girl talking to a man on social media.
“Her mom took her devices away after finding out about their interactions,” Destiny Williams shared. “We’re deeply concerned because the man was sending her inappropriate pictures, and he appears to be much older—at least 19.”
The sixth grader was gone when Jada’s mother returned home at 8 p.m. after leaving Jada with her grandparents. A search by family members was unsuccessful, and police were notified around 10 p.m.
The family says Jada has never run away before and didn’t appear to take any personal belongings, including her glasses.
“She didn’t even take her glasses,” Destiny Williams said. “We don’t know where she went or who she might be with. We’re worried she’s with the man she was talking to on Snapchat.”
The Fayetteville Police Department issued a missing person alert Friday evening.
