Lifetime is kicking off the new year with two gripping, original movies as part of its acclaimed ‘Ripped From The Headlines’ series. Based on actual events, these chilling dramas promise to captivate audiences with their tales of survival and resilience. Premiering this January, the slate features Dascha Polanco in Terror Comes Knocking: The Marcela Borges Story and Paige Hurd in Girl in the Garage: The Laura Cowan Story. Both films will debut at 8 p.m. ET/PT on consecutive Saturdays.
Terror Comes Knocking: The Marcela Borges Story
Premieres January 11, 2025 | Starring Dascha Polanco
Dascha Polanco (Orange Is the New Black, Poker Face) takes on the role of Marcela Borges in this harrowing true story. What begins as a peaceful weekend for Marcela and her family quickly spirals into a nightmare when armed intruders storm their Florida suburban home. Pregnant and terrified, Marcela must navigate the demands of her captors, who threaten her family’s lives unless they produce $200,000. As tensions escalate and options dwindle, Marcela must make unimaginable choices to ensure their survival.
Terror Comes Knocking is produced by Cineflix Productions for Lifetime. Jeff Vanderwal serves as executive producer, with Felipe Rodriguez directing from a script by Crystal Verge.
Girl in the Garage: The Laura Cowan Story

Paige Hurd (Power Book II: Ghost) stars in the powerful true story of Laura Cowan, an abuse survivor turned advocate. When Laura’s husband is arrested, she struggles to provide for her children. A family friend, Musa (played by Stephen Bishop), offers to take them in, seemingly out of kindness. However, this sanctuary turns into a living nightmare as Laura and her children endure unthinkable abuse, including sexual assault and captivity in a garage. Despite the horrific conditions, Laura documents her ordeal and smuggles a note for help, leading to her eventual rescue and escape.
