DURHAM, NC – A late-night shooting near a shopping plaza on Guess Road in Durham has left three people wounded, with one in critical condition. The incident occurred early Thursday morning (Jan. 2), prompting an active investigation by the Durham Police Department.

What We Know So Far

Police responded around 12:30 a.m. to reports that three individuals with gunshot wounds had arrived at a local hospital in privately owned vehicles. According to authorities, two victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries, while the third is in critical condition.

The shooting is believed to have taken place in the 2400 block of Guess Road, a busy area featuring a mix of businesses, including restaurants, storefronts, and a nightclub. Most establishments were closed at the time of the shooting.

A manager from the nightclub located in the shopping center plaza told CBS 17 that loud music inside the venue drowned out the sound of gunfire. Security footage reportedly showed that the injured individuals did not emerge from the nightclub.

Nearby, Atlantic Auto Exchange Inc., situated just one parking lot away, was unaffected by the shooting. Owner Chip Stabler expressed his surprise upon learning about the incident. “In my 30 years of business here, I can’t recall a time when something like this happened so close,” Stabler shared. “While there have been reports of violence in the area, we’ve never experienced significant issues.”

Police Investigation Ongoing

As of now, no details have been released about what led to the shooting or the identities of the victims. Investigators are working to piece together the events leading up to the incident.
