Lifetime Announces ‘Voices of a Lifetime’ 2025 Lineup Featuring Mary J. Blige, Lisa Lisa, Gloria Gaynor

Lifetime’s acclaimed Voices of a Lifetime series returns this winter with three inspiring films spotlighting music legends Queen of Hip Hop and Soul Mary J. Blige, Latin Hip Hop Pioneer Lisa Velez (Lisa Lisa), and powerhouse Gloria Gaynor. Each film celebrates these icons’ trailblazing careers and personal journeys, offering viewers an intimate look at their legacies. The movie event begins on Saturday, January 25, at 8/7c, with a continuation of Mary J. Blige’s fan-favorite story and culminates in Gloria Gaynor’s authorized biopic and documentary premiere.

Inspired by Blige’s best-selling hit Family Affair, the third movie installment continues Kendra and Ben’s epic love story from Lifetime’s 2023 fan-favorite movies Mary J. Blige’s Real Love and Mary J. Blige’s Strength of a WomanMary J. Blige’s Family Affair picks up as Kendra (Ajiona Alexus)and Ben (Da’Vinchi) move out of the city, hoping to finally build a life together.  With all their family around and inserted in their lives, tensions rise as they struggle with fertility issues, and Kendra tries to find her footing with Ben’s son, Miles.  Their relationship reaches a boiling point when Ben secretly helps his brother, Kendra returns to the city, and an old friend returns to her life. The family must unite to help Kendra and Ben save their relationship and stay true to their real love.

The film is produced by Front Street Pictures and executive produced by Mary J. Blige, Bruce Miller, Milana Edwards-Brooks, Jordan and John Davis, Ajiona Alexus, and Da’Vinchi. Troy Scott directs the film from a script by Rachel Ingram.

The fully authorized biopic, part of the Voices of a Lifetime series, tells the compelling story of the global phenomenon, Lisa Lisa (Jearnest Corchado), who rose to fame in the 1980s as part of the supergroup Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam. She paved the way for artists like Selena and Jennifer Lopez to shine. As a 15-year-old Puerto Rican girl from Hell’s Kitchen, Lisa Velez faced sexism and racism throughout her early career. Despite being diagnosed with breast cancer, she became the first Latina artist to reach multiple Billboard charts with hits like “Can You Feel The Beat,” “All Cried Out,” and “Lost in Emotion. Her best friend and backup singer, Toni Ménage (Bre-Z), provided unwavering support, helping Lisa take control of her life. This true story highlights their resilience in the face of the entertainment industry, leading to a triumphant conclusion as they pursued their dreams.

Lisa Lisa stars as her mother, with Jearnest Corchado as the young Lisa. Produced by Swirl Films, the film is executive produced by Tracy “Twinkie” Byrd, Lisa Velez, Toni Ménage, and others, with Tailiah Breon directing from a script by Rebecca Murga.

ROBIN ROBERTS PRESENTS I WILL SURVIVE: THE GLORIA GAYNOR STORY

The biopic tells the story of Gloria Gaynor, America’s “Queen of Disco,” whose hit “I Will Survive” became a global anthem of empowerment. Tony Award winner Joaquina Kalukango executive produces and stars as two-time Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, and music legend Gloria Gaynor with Lance Gross (Tyler Perry’s House of Payne) starring as Gloria’s husband Linwood Simon. The biopic dives into Gaynor’s struggles, including overcoming her tumultuous marriage and personal reinvention, while celebrating her legendary career. Gloria Gaynor herself executive produces the film and contributes an original song.

Robin Roberts Presents I Will Survive: The Gloria Gaynor Story is produced by Robin Roberts and Linda Berman for Rock’n Robin Productions in association with Apex Content Ventures. The film, directed by Alicia K. Harris, is based on a script by Njeri Brown and Jane Espenson.

GLORIA GAYNOR: I WILL SURVIVE (DOCUMENTARY)

Following the biopic, the documentary *Gloria Gaynor: I Will Survive*, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, makes its world television debut on Lifetime as part of the Voices of a Lifetime series. The film tells the inspiring story of disco legend Gloria Gaynor, who has motivated millions with her anthem “I Will Survive.” However, she only truly understood the meaning of the lyrics after hitting rock bottom at the age of 65. 

 

The documentary follows Gloria on an unexpectedly challenging journey as she strives to write and record a gospel album. It explores themes of reinvention, the power of faith, and a magnificent second act, inspiring audiences to not just survive, but to thrive.

Produced by Storyville Entertainment, the documentary is directed by Betsy Schechter and features Gaynor as an executive producer.
