He Picked The Wrong One: Teen Shot During Attempted Carjacking at Raleigh Motel

RALEIGH, NC — A 17-year-old suspect armed with a gun was shot during an attempted carjacking Sunday night (Jan. 5) at the Red Roof Inn near Crabtree Valley Mall, police said.

The incident occurred just after 8:50 p.m. in the motel parking lot along Arrow Road, near Interstate 440 off Glenwood Avenue. According to the Raleigh Police Department, the teenager attempted to steal a man’s sedan and fired at least one shot during the confrontation.

The intended victim, who was also armed, returned fire, striking the suspect. Raleigh police reported that the teen’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, and he was transported to WakeMed for treatment. The carjacking victim was unharmed during the incident.

Several police officers responded to the scene, closing off part of the Red Roof Inn parking lot with crime scene tape. Arrow Road, located parallel to Blue Ridge Road and adjacent to I-440, remained partially blocked during the investigation.

Raleigh police stated that additional details, including any potential charges, would be released Monday (Jan. 6).
