Raleigh Bail Bond Agent Arrested For Embezzling $13,300 Intended To Secure Inmates’ Releases

RALEIGH, NC – A Raleigh bail bond agent is facing serious legal trouble after being arrested on multiple charges, including three counts of embezzlement and three counts of obtaining property by false pretense, all felonies, according to North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey.

Cobb

Shaqura Tyeisha Cobb, 34, is accused of pocketing $13,300 in bail premiums intended to secure the release of three jail inmates—two from Wake County Detention Center and one from Franklin County Detention Center—between June 25, 2024, and Aug. 27, 2024, the Department of Insurance reported.

Licensed to operate statewide, Cobb primarily conducted her business in Wake County. She allegedly kept the money intended to bail out the three inmates. As a result, Cobb now faces three counts of each charge. She was arrested on Sunday, January 5, and received a $6,000 secured bond.

As the probe continues, the Department of Insurance has encouraged anyone with additional complaints against Cobb to contact their Bail Bond Regulatory at 919-807-6850 or the Criminal Investigations Division at 919-807-6840

“Bail bond agents hold a position of trust and must be held to a high standard,” Commissioner Causey stated. “I commend our special agents and Bail Bond Regulation Division for their efforts in upholding that standard and resolving this issue.

Cobb’s arrest follows multiple complaints received by the Department of Insurance, prompting the investigation that has brought these charges to light. This situation not only illustrates an alleged breach of professional ethics but also underlines the inherent vulnerabilities in systems meant to uphold the trust between legal actors and the public they serve.
