Raleigh Man Arrested in Fatal Hit-and-Run of 71-Year-Old Woman
RALEIGH, NC – Raleigh police have arrested 23-year-old Abdirahman Bare in connection with a hit-and-run crash that tragically claimed the life of 71-year-old Delores Richardson on Sunday evening.
The incident occurred around 6:09 p.m. as Richardson crossed Raleigh Boulevard near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard outside the crosswalk. According to police, Bare was driving a 2007 Chevy Impala south on Raleigh Boulevard with a green light but failed to reduce his speed, striking Richardson.
Instead of stopping to render aid, Bare fled the scene, with multiple cameras capturing his vehicle leaving the area. Richardson was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to her injuries.
After days of investigation, police located Bare’s car on Wednesday and arrested him shortly afterward. He now faces a felony charge of hit-and-run involving serious injury or death. Additionally, Bare has been charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle and multiple traffic violations, including driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle, window tint violations, and using fictitious registration tags.
This tragic incident underscores the critical importance of pedestrian safety and responsible driving.
