Durham Police Investigate Fatal Shooting On NC Highway 55, Suspect Arrested

DURHAM, NC – The Durham Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that took place Friday afternoon on NC Highway 55, resulting in the death of an adult male.

At approximately 12:30 p.m. on January 24, 2025, officers were initially dispatched to the 4200 block of Garrett Road for an unspecified police concern. Upon arrival, they were informed of a potential shooting victim located in the 2600 block of NC Highway 55. Officers discovered the victim upon arriving at the scene. EMS responded, but the man was pronounced dead on-site.

Hours later, at 6:57 p.m., Durham Police announced the arrest of 32-year-old Jeisson Munoz-Valencia of Durham, who has been charged with murder in connection to the case. Authorities confirmed that Munoz-Valencia and the victim were known to each other.

Police have indicated that this appears to be an isolated incident, and the investigation is ongoing.
