Shaw Lady Bears Fall to Winston-Salem in Overtime
Raleigh, NC – The Shaw University women’s basketball team suffered a tough 62-58 overtime loss to the Winston-Salem State Rams at home Wednesday evening (Jan. 22).
The Lady Bears (6-13, 3-6) showcased balanced scoring, with four players reaching double figures. Skylar Adams led the charge with 16 points, while Elisha Quinn added 13 points and two steals. Kaylee Milburn recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Shaw’s effort on the offensive glass was a highlight, as the team grabbed 17 offensive rebounds, resulting in 24 second-chance points. Defensively, the Lady Bears disrupted the Rams with 13 blocked shots, including a standout nine-block performance from Mahogany Collins.
Game Highlights
- First Half: After falling behind early, Shaw closed the first quarter tied at 7-7. Despite trailing by as many as 12 in the second quarter, the Lady Bears rallied with a 7-0 run to narrow the deficit to 23-18 before heading into halftime down 25-20.
- Second Half: Shaw came out strong in the third quarter, using a 7-0 run to take a brief 31-27 lead. However, the Rams responded, reclaiming a 41-39 advantage heading into the fourth.
- Fourth Quarter and Overtime: The Lady Bears battled back in the fourth, taking a 51-49 lead with 2:21 remaining. The Rams tied the game at 52-52, forcing overtime. In the extra period, Winston-Salem edged ahead to seal the win.
