Ohio Mass Shooting Leaves One Dead, Five Injured
NEW ALBANY, Ohio — A suspect was arrested Wednesday morning in connection with a shooting at an Ohio warehouse that left one person dead and five others injured in what authorities are calling a “targeted attack.”
The New Albany Police Department announced that Bruce Reginald Foster III was apprehended at a Columbus residence after a search warrant was executed by the authorities.
The shooting took place around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday at KDC/One, a cosmetics manufacturing facility located just northeast of Columbus, according to officials. Responding officers found one individual deceased and transported five others to local hospitals, though their conditions remain unknown.
Police identified Foster as an employee at the facility, noting that he had worked for several hours on the day of the incident before allegedly opening fire and fleeing the scene. New Albany Police Chief Greg Jones stated that the motive for the shooting remains unclear, with no prior reports of conflict or disputes.
Approximately 150 employees were present at the warehouse during the shooting, according to Chief Jones. Most managed to escape to a nearby building, where many were subsequently interviewed by law enforcement.
At the crime scene, investigators retrieved a handgun and a team from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is working on tracing its history, the chief reported early Wednesday. “This is a tragedy that, quite frankly, I never expected to witness in our community,” he said.
Since the beginning of the year, there have been at least 26 mass shootings in the United States, as reported by the Gun Violence Archive. This organization defines a mass shooting as an event where “a minimum of four victims are shot, either injured or killed, not including the shooter.”
