Durham Police Charge Five Juveniles in Massive Car Break-In Spree

DURHAM, NC – Durham Police have filed nearly 300 charges against five juveniles, ages 14 to 17, in connection with a wave of vehicle break-ins that occurred between December and January.

Authorities report that the suspects stole a variety of items, including guns and credit cards. Additionally, two of the juveniles face charges for allegedly firing at a state trooper during a chase in Orange County.

Police Crack Down on Increasingly Bold Crimes

Durham Police are ramping up efforts to combat the rising number of vehicle break-ins.

“Vehicle break-ins have been commonplace for years, but criminals are getting bolder—breaking windows, striking dozens of vehicles in a single night, and expanding their reach across multiple cities. This level of crime won’t be tolerated,” said Durham Police Sgt. J. Wagstaff. “These cases will be solved swiftly, and offenders will be placed in secured custody.”

Community Urged to Stay Vigilant

Investigators emphasize that community involvement plays a critical role in solving these crimes. Police urge residents to report any suspicious activity, no matter how minor it may seem.

Ongoing Trend of Juvenile Offenses

This case follows a similar incident in December, when police filed nearly 200 juvenile petitions against three teens for a string of vehicle break-ins in November.

Durham Police reaffirm their commitment to stopping these crimes and ensuring that those responsible face consequences. Anyone with information about recent vehicle break-ins is encouraged to contact authorities.
