Duke Uses Strong Defensive Effort To Dominate Miami

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – No. 2 Duke never trailed in its 97-60 victory at Miami on Tuesday, Feb. 25. The Blue Devils (25-3, 16-1 ACC) forced 20 turnovers, a new season high for the Hurricanes (6-22, 2-15 ACC) and made 15 three-pointers en route to the 37-point victory.

The 37-point win is the largest margin in an ACC contest so far this season and Duke’s second win of at least 30 points against a conference foe during the 2024-25 campaign.

Isaiah Evans exploded for 16 first-half points against Miami, on 5-of-6 (.833) shooting from deep in the first 20 minutes, to help Duke seize control of the contest. Kon Knueppel led all scorers with 20 points on 6-of-8 (.750) from the field, including 4-of-5 (.800) from distance. Cooper Flagg and Caleb Foster also scored in double-figures, posting 16 and 10, respectively.

On the glass, Flagg and Knueppel paced the Blue Devils with five boards each. Duke dished 20 assists as a team, led by Flagg, who ended the game with six dimes.

Tuesday marked the 100th game for head coach Jon Scheyer, who holds a 79-21 record at the helm of the program. His 79 victories are the most by a Duke head coach in their first 100 games.

Tyrese Proctor scored his 1,000th career point on Tuesday night, making a three-pointer in the opening minutes. Proctor left the game with a lower-body injury after tweaking his knee shortly before halftime.

Duke head coach Jon Scheyer took time after the game to address Proctor’s situation.

“I’m happy for Tyrese [Proctor] getting his 1,000th point. I know he didn’t want to get it in this fashion. We have to get him back [home], get x-rays and an MRI. He got hit in the leg. That’s the extent of what I know, and we’ll get him looked at and taken care of.”

Duke returns home to battle Florida State on Saturday, March 1 at 7 p.m.,
