Empowering Future Leaders: Registration Opens for 2025 Boys of Color P.O.W.E.R. Academy
DURHAM, NC – The Boys of Color P.O.W.E.R. (Pathways of Opportunity Where Leaders Emerge Resilient) Academy is back, offering an inspiring and transformative experience designed to uplift and empower young men of color. Taking place on Saturday, March 1, 2025, from 8:30 AM – 1:30 PM at the Minnie M. Forte-Brown Staff Development Center (2107 Hillandale Road, Durham, NC 27705), this free event provides an opportunity for boys of color to gain invaluable leadership skills, build confidence, and connect with mentors who will support their growth and success.
Limited to 100 participants, the Academy includes breakfast, lunch, and a Certificate of Participation. Parents and guardians are encouraged to register early at bit.ly/POWER-Academy-2025.
Educators, community leaders, and stakeholders are urged to support this initiative by volunteering, mentoring, or helping spread the word. When communities come together to uplift the next generation, the impact is immeasurable, creating lasting opportunities for boys of color to thrive.
What to Expect:

Keynote Speaker – Dr. Kamal Bell
Dr. Bell is the Founder & Farmer of Sankofa Farms LLC, a groundbreaking agricultural initiative addressing food insecurity in Durham and Orange Counties. His work is dedicated to educating youth about sustainability, entrepreneurship, and the power of self-sufficiency. Dr. Bell’s work focuses on empowering youth and changing food intake habits in areas affected by food deserts. As a passionate advocate for change, Dr. Bell will share his inspiring journey and offer valuable insights on leadership, resilience, and community impact.
Workshop Facilitator – Dr. DeLeon Gray

Dr. Gray is the Founder & CEO of Black and Belonging, a platform that fosters inclusive educational environments where young men of color can thrive. As an Associate Professor of Educational Psychology and Equity at NC State University, his expertise in student engagement, identity development, and belonging will help participants strengthen their confidence, resilience, and leadership potential.
