NC State Falls To Syracuse On The Road
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The NC State men’s basketball team fell to Syracuse, 74-60, Wednesday night inside the JMA Wireless Dome.
Dontrez Styles led NC State with 17 points, all in the second half.
He was the only Pack player to score in double figures.
Michael O’Connell added nine points, Marcus Hill had eight while Ben Middlebrooks and Breon Pass each chipped in six.
Syracuse jumped out to a 13-3 lead a little over five minutes into the game and the Pack never got closer than seven points the rest of the way.
NC State trailed by as many as 19 points in the second half before going on a 16-5 run highlighted by 11 points from Dontrez Styles to get within eight, 57-49, with 8:38 to play.
But after getting within eight, NC State would only make one field goal over the next six minutes to allow the Orange to rebuild a double-digit lead.
Syracuse finished the game shooting 58.3 percent from the field, the second-highest shooting percentage allowed by NC State this season, while the Pack shot just 34.4 percent from the field, its second-lowest shooting percentage of the season.
The Orange shot 72.2 percent (13-of-18) from the field in the final 20 minutes.
Syracuse was led by JJ Starling with 17 points, Jyare Davis added 15 and Eddie Lampkin finished with 14 points and 15 rebounds.
Syracuse outscored NC State, 46-22, in the paint.
NC State which entered the game leading the ACC in fast break points had zero against the Orange.
NC State is back in action Saturday afternoon when it plays at Georgia Tech. Tipoff against the Yellow Jackets is 3 p.m.
