Two Men Killed in Separate Durham Shootings Over the Weekend

DURHAM, NC – The Durham Police Department is investigating two separate fatal shootings that occurred over the weekend, claiming the lives of two men.

Saturday Morning Shooting – Ellis Road

The first incident took place early Saturday morning, March 1, in the 600 block of Ellis Road. Officers responded to reports of a gunshot victim at approximately 5:01 a.m. and discovered 27-year-old Monteith Lowery of Roxboro suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition but later succumbed to his injuries. Police believe this was an isolated incident.

Sunday Night Shooting – East Umstead Street

The second fatal shooting happened late Sunday night, March 2, in the 300 block of East Umstead Street. Shortly before 10:00 p.m., officers found two injured men, one of whom had been shot. The gunshot victim, identified as 48-year-old Ottoniel Lopez-Diaz of Durham, was transported to the hospital in critical condition but later died. The second victim’s condition has not been disclosed.
